For fitness fanatics: Fitty London
Monthly subscription, £29
With Fitty London, you can look forward to a selection of fitness-related foods, drinks and lifestyle products—anything from protein powders and superfood snacks to skipping ropes and massage balls. Choose from a monthly subscription (which you can cancel at any time) or a one-off box, and expect full-size products from brands like Innermost, RawCo, Well & Truly and Protein World.
WDDTY verdict: Nice and heavy and gorgeously packaged, our Fitty London box immediately seemed worth the price. Once opened, it didn't disappoint, with a great selection of full-size products (like the Mr Black Sport Wash, a natural solution for washing your sports gear), and generous servings of superfood and protein powders. It even included a BPA-free protein shaker bottle and stainless-steel whisk ball. This would make a great gift for a fitness-loving friend.
Sample items: Well & Truly Refreshing Gazpacho Drink, Squirrel Sisters Raspberry Ripple bar, Innermost Superfood Protein Blends and Shaker.
For supplement junkies: Vitalize
Vitabox Monthly Subscription, £25.99
Vitabox makes taking your supplements simpler. It's a box containing a month's supply of four different supplements by Vitalize—a multivitamin, green tea extract, coenzyme Q10, and omega-3, -6 and -9 fatty acids—presented in handy daily strip packs. When you subscribe, you get a box delivered every month, meaning you don't have to worry about running out of your supplements or ordering the same products over and over, and you can cancel at any time. The strips are also ideal for taking on holiday and are available as a one-off purchase.
WDDTY verdict: We love the simplicity of this subscription. There's a good range of nutrients included to support overall health (although we would have liked to have seen a probiotic in there too), and the tear-off daily strip packs are so convenient. Plus the box should fit through your letterbox, so there's no waiting around for your delivery.
For natural beauties: Love Lula
Monthly Beauty Box, £12.50
www.lovelula.com; tel: 01606 836 606
There are lots of monthly beauty boxes you can sign up for nowadays, all delivering a curated collection of hair-care, skin-care and makeup supplies, but Love Lula's boxes contain only products made without harmful chemicals and animal-testing. For £12.50 a month, you get to try out products from natural-beauty brands like John Masters Organics, Balm Balm and Rossi Uvema, and with some products alone worth well over the price of the box, it's excellent value for money. You can choose from a monthly recurring payment (easy to cancel) or pay upfront for three or 12 months' worth of boxes.
WDDTY verdict: Our sample box contained four skin-care products and a nail polish. Even though only two of them were full-size products, the value of the box was £37, so you're definitely getting your money's worth for £12.50 (plus you get a discount code for the brands in your box). Two products were 100 per cent natural, two were 98-99 per cent natural, and the nail polish was free of toluene, dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and formaldehyde, three chemicals commonly found in nail polishes. We liked the selection of items and even discovered some beauty brands we hadn't tried before.
Sample items: Weleda Skin Food, Greenfrog Botanic Botanical Bodywash, Madara Micellar Water.
For healthy snackers: Lifebox
Monthly, from £13.95
www.lifeboxfood.com; tel: 01803 225 104
Whether you go for the Men's Health, Women's Health, Junior or Everyday Wellness Box, a Lifebox subscription will see you well stocked with wholesome snacks, healthy drinks, raw treats, superfood powders, spice mixes and more. As the box names suggest, the first three are tailored to men, women and children, respectively, while the Everyday Wellness Box is great for anyone looking for gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan-friendly items. The entire range is available as a one-off trial purchase, or you can sign up for a three- or 12-month subscription that can be paid for on a monthly basis (easy to cancel at any time) or all upfront.
WDDTY verdict: We sampled the Men's Health Box and loved the variety of snacks, superfoods and supplements inside (14 different products in total). The price tag (£21.95) does seem a bit high when you consider you'll probably get through the entire box fairly quickly, but we were impressed by the quality of the ingredients, the cute twine-and-paper packaging, and being introduced to some new brands (like Grub, a company making insect-containing energy bars).
Sample items: Rebel Kitchen Matcha Mylk, Kiki Health Alkaline Infusion Powder, Eat Grub Coconut and Cacao Energy Bar
For pet owners: PawPost
Monthly box, from £8.95
Subscription boxes are not just for people. You can now treat your four-legged friends to a regular supply of healthy goodies, thanks to companies like PawPost, who are sending lucky cats and dogs monthly boxes packed with natural foods and treats, health-boosting supplements and eco-friendly toys. With PawPost, you can sign up for a recurring monthly plan (which you can cancel at any time), or pay in advance for three, six or 12 months' worth of boxes, and look forward to products from premium pet brands like Meowing Heads, The Innocent Hound and Green & Wild's.
WDDTY verdict: Our feline product testers, Alfie and Lola, went crazy for the contents of their cat box, which included natural hand-baked cat treats, a generous portion of high-protein 'evolutionary appropriate' cat food, kelp-rich seaweed sprinkles and two natural catnip toys. Alfie was heard purring loudly while eating the food and treats, and Lola couldn't be parted from the catnip heart soft toy. At £22.95 for a monthly recurring plan plus £1.95 for delivery, this box subscription isn't cheap, but it features top-quality brands—and you do make a saving compared with the cost of purchasing each product online individually plus delivery.
